Lord's Supper
Luke 12:35-48

Sometimes kids play a game called "Hide and Seek". The seeker counts to 100 and says "Ready or not here I come". In this text Jesus is telling us important things in life are going to happen whether we are ready for them or not. And the most important event to come is our eventual meeting with the Lord. Whether we die or he comes first, we are all going to one day meet our Maker. Jesus is saying, "Whether you are ready or not, I will come."

One of the reasons Jesus gave us instructions to eat the Lord’s Supper was that we might remember him from week to week and keep ourselves prepared for our future meeting with the Lord. If we forget that Jesus is coming, we are likely to begin living in ways in which we ought not to live which means that we will not be ready to meet him.

The apostle Paul said that when we take this supper we proclaim Jesus’ death UNTIL HE COMES. In other words, this supper not only looks back to Jesus first coming; it also looks forward to the time when we each shall meet with him again. It reminds us that Jesus is coming and we must always keep ourselves prepared to meet him. Let us take this time to remember Jesus who said, "You must also be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."

"Ready or not, here I come."
