Jesus warns us about hypocrisy. Hypocrisy causes the bad man to hide his sin and the good man to hide his faith. Do you ever feel like hiding your faith?
Jesus urges us to be less afraid of what men think and more afraid of what God thinks. He reminds us that anything that we might suffer from men is nothing compared to an eternal hell.
Finally, he says that we must not be ashamed to stand up for Jesus in front of our fellow man and we can then expect Jesus to stand up for us in the presence of the Almighty God and his angels.
When we take the Lord’s Supper, we should remember what Jesus endured from men - for us. What he suffered from men - for us. And we ought to feel a desire to be more like him. The next time you are afraid to say a good word to someone for Jesus - remember what Jesus did - for you.
