Lord's Supper
Luke 13:1-5

Luke 13:1

In the context of this scripture, Jesus had been explaining to the people that God punishes the guilty. And those with the greater guilt receive the greater punishment. And if you don’t try to rectify your mistakes and reconcile with your enemies, you will surely pay a price.

After hearing this lesson, some of Jesus’ audience remind him that Pilate had recently murdered certain Galileans while they were offering God a sacrifice for their sins. They seem to be suggesting to Jesus that according to Jesus’ teachings , these Jews must have been especially guilty because they appear to have especially suffered and been especially punished by God.

Jesus responds with a great truth when he explains...

Luke 13:2-5

The lesson is this, and it is a good one to remember while we take the Lord’s supper. Unless YOU and I repent, we TOO shall all likewise perish. We must all recognize that we are ALL sinners and very much much guilty of sin. And since we are all guilty of our own sins, WE must repent or we shall perish. The death of Jesus was for each of us, and this should remind us of the principle Jesus is teaching in this text. WE are sinners, and unless WE repent of our sins, we will perish as truly as any other sinner.
