"...in the same way you judge, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured unto you."
A similar passage in James says, "... judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment."
These words in scripture first speak of the fact of our own judgment, and remind us that God will one day judge us - "you will be judged" and how he is willing to judge. He offers mercy to us on the Judgment Day. God is described in scripture as a God who loves mercy and who is full of mercy. Fortunately for us, his mercy is greater than his judgment. With God, mercy triumphs over judgment.
But these words also call on us to be like God. God is full of mercy. We must also be. God is indeed willing to offer us mercy - but only IF we are willing to offer others the same kind of mercy. "Judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful."
This is a good time to ask a question - when it comes to the mistakes of others, are you more likely to condemn or offer mercy?
