Names
(Genesis 10)

Name after name, that's all I see,
Said the little boy upon his knee.

Names? said the grey-haired old man,
I see love, grace, and God's great plan.

Name one way said the little boy,
As he sat on the floor and played with his toy.

Name one way? I'll give you three,
How this list shows God's love to me.

Named in this list is the history of man,
From the time the waters this globe did span.

Names of every nation and race,
Allowed to live by God's divine grace.

Named in this list is Noah's son Shem,
Through whom Christ came my soul to win.

Names you might see, but I see love,
From Him who is our Father above.

The little boy, in the poem above, could not see the value in the names listed in Genesis 10. Sometimes people do not see the value in some parts of the Bible, therefore they do not study them, or ignore what they say. We, however, need to realize every word in the Bible is from God, and is profitable (II Timothy 3:16-17). We need to be like the Pslamist and: love the word of God, and meditate on it (Psalm 119:97); hide it in our hearts, so that we do not sin against God (Psalm 119:11); and use it as a light to guide our steps in life (Psalm 119:105).
