The Attributes of God

The attributes of God are those characteristics of divine nature which are inseparable from the idea of God. Consider, that God is not only the author and giver of life, but He is Life!

  1. "But the Lord Is the true God" (Jer. 10: 10)
  2. "For just as the Father has life In Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself" (John 5:26)
  3. "Jesus said ... I am the way, and the truth, and the life" (John 14:6)

While, this life has no promises, we can know that we have eternal life in God, through Jesus Christ. We are the Independence church of Christ. We meet at 401 S. 11th St. Come Worship and learn more about God with us. We hope to see you Sunday.

Has God always Existed?

Yes, my friend, before time began, there was God. For instance, God Is not bound by time or space. His nature demands that He is Self-existing! Consider, these three examples:

  1. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1).
  2. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1).
  3. "For by Him (that, is Christ), all things were created both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible." (Col. 1:16).

The God who created this world and made you and me, will exist forever! When this world is no more and you and I exist no longer -- God will, because He Is Self-existing!

Can God Change?

Because, we are human, it is hard to think of someone not changing. Change is the word of today. Everything and everybody is expected to change in our world- But, consider for a moment, that God never has, nor will He ever change! Notice:

  1. "But Thou art the same, And Thy years will not come to an end" (Ps.. 102:27)
  2. "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, and forever" (Heb. 13:8).
  3. "Every good thing bestowed and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation, or shifting shadow" (James 1: 17).

God, and Jesus Christ are changeless in a changing world! Come and learn more about God, and His changeless attribute. We are the Independence church of Christ- We meet at 401 S. 11th St.

Can God Lie?

Because, God is, and His Divine nature demands total perfection of His character -- No, God cannot lie- Consider, the following, "in the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, guaranteed with an oath, in order that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have strong encouragement "(Heb. 7:17,18)

God cannot lie. If He did, that would make Him less than God. Before we accuse God of saying or doing something that He cannot do; why not ask ourselves if we are saying or doing the things He asks of us?

How Does God Answer Prayer?

The power of prayer cannot be underestimated. But, the question is not does God answer, but whose prayer does He answer and how. The Bible provides the answers to such questions. Notice:

  1. Jesus said in Matthew 6:10, that the way we are to pray is in accordance to the will of the father. "Thy kingdom come- Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven."
  2. James writes: "The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much" (James 5:16).

Some conclusions must be made. First, prayer is answered in accordance to the will of The Father; not our will or wants or our time table. Second, a righteous man's prayer is heard and answered, as he is doing the will of God- The example of Elijah is used in James 5:17 to llustrate this very point that both Jesus and James are teaching.

Are you doing the will of God? The church of Christ is searching to become more like Christ, and to do His Father's will. Come visit us. We are located 401 S. 11th, Independence, KS.

The Providence of God

The question is not does God work today, but how does He work. The answer is through Providence. But, what is Providence? Providence is God working behind the scenes, or indirectly in the affairs of the world. Consider these examples:

  1. Joseph, was sold into slavery by his own family, and yet, the Scriptures record that what was meant to be evil, became good with God (Gen. 50:20).
  2. Esther saved her people from destruction (Esther 4:14), and yet God's name is not found one time in the book of Esther.
  3. Paul tells us that: "---God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).

In addition, once God worked directly in the lives and events of the world by miracles, but now, He works indirectly or behind the scenes through Providence. The Independence church of Christ is searching to learn more about God and His Divine purpose -- will you join us?

The Unity of God

The God of the Bible is much like our own father. The more you know of him, the more you will love him. In the Bible you will find a Unity of the Godhead. The Godhead consists of:

  1. God, The Father
  2. God, The Son
  3. God, The Holy Spirit
Within this Godhead is One Essence, or Being, that make up the Unity of God. Notice:
  1. Deut. 6:4 -- "...Jehovah our God is One"
  2. John 10:30 -- "I and the Father are one"

God is Omniscience

The God of the Bible is all-knowing. He knows the hearts of men, and their intentions. For there is nothing that God cannot know. Why? Because He is God and He alone has the ability to be all-knowing. Consider Psalms 139:

"0 Lord, Thou hast searched me and known me" (1).
"For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother's womb" (13).

The Psalmist declares that, God is all-knowing. In addition, the Psalmist also declares how God knew him while he was still in His mother's womb! -- How interesting!

God is Omnipotent

The God of the Bible is all-powerful. He is the creator of this world, and the things of the world. Consider Genesis 1:1, and you will find four things:

  1. "In the beginning" -- States the Time of the earth's beginning
  2. "God" -- Is Power behind the earth's existence
  3. "created" -- The Energy used in creating the world
  4. "the heavens and the earth" -- The Space that God used in creation

Come learn more about the God of the Bible. We are the Independence church of Christ. We meet at 401 S. 11th St. Come worship with us! We hope to see you on Sunday!

God is Omnipresence

The God of the Bible is all-present. God is not in everything, but He is present in our world. Consider the following:

  1. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 is referring to God's control of the world; not Man.
  2. Romans 8:28, Paul declares that God works in the lives of His people through providence.

The God of the Bible is Good and He assures His own that He will never abandon or forsake them.
