Is Jesus God?

The Gospel of John presents a clear picture of Jesus Christ, and His work. In addition, John's gospel presents Jesus Christ, as The Son of God. Therefore, He Is Divine! Note, the seven I AM's concerning Christ:

  1. "I AM the bread of life" (6:35).
  2. "I AM the light of the world" (8:12;9:5).
  3. "I AM the door" (10:7).
  4. "I AM the good shepherd" (10: 11, 14).
  5. "I AM the resurrection and the life" (11:25).
  6. "I AM the way, truth, and the life" (14:6).
  7. "1 AM the true vine"(15:1) (N.T. Survey, Tenney, p. 197).

The Better Messenger: The Son

The Book of Hebrews teaches on the "Better Things" concerning Jesus Christ and what He would have us to do. In fact, the first chapter of Hebrews is devoted to the Better Messenger: The Son, Jesus Christ. The writer states:

"God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers In the prophets In marry portions and In many ways, In these last days has spoken to us In His Son, Mom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world" (Hebrews 1:1 -2).

The writer of the Book of Hebrews states clearly that we are to listen to the Son of God; that Is Jesus Christ for our rule and guide today. Come learn more about Jesus Christ, The Son of God at the Independence Church of Christ. We meet at 401 S. 11th st with Bible Classes at 9:30 A.M. and Worship at 10:30 A.M. See you Sunday?

The Better Apostle

The superiority of Jesus Christ to Moses is discussed by the Hebrew writer in Hebrews 3:1 -19. Notice what the writer says about Jesus Christ:

  1. "He was faithful to Him who appointed Him"(2).
  2. "For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses"(3).
  3. "For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God ... but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house whose house we are, if we hold fact our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end"(4,6).

The writer is clear that Jesus Christ is one that we are to be serving today. Are you following Christ? Come learn more about Him. The Independence Church of Christ meets at 401 S. 11th. Classes begin at 9:30 A.M. with Worship at 10:30 AM.

The Better Priest

The Hebrew writer continues to exhort Jesus as The Son of God. In chapter four the subject Is Jesus as the better Priest compared to any priest from the Old Testament. Consider the exhortation concerning Jesus Christ:

  1. "Let us hold fast our confession" (14).
  2. "Let us therefore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace" (16).
  3. "That we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need" (16).

Jesus Christ is our helper, strength, and Saviour if we will draw near to Him through obedience of His will!

Come learn more about this Jesus, who is a priest forever. The Independence Church of Christ meets at 401 S. 11th St. with Bible classes at 9:30 AM and Worship at 10:30 AM.

The Better Covenant

The thought of Better Things continues in Hebrews, chapter eight. Jesus is the author of a Better Covenant. That is, the Old Testament and its laws are no longer our guide; it is the New Testament that we are to follow. Because of His sacrifice He changed the Law by which men are to follow. Listen to Him:

"For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of [the] law also"(7:12).

"For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion sought for a second...He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear"(8:7,13).
Jesus Christ is the author of a better Covenant because He abides as a priest forever and He is unchangeable.

Come learn more about the New Covenant of Jesus Christ at the Independence Church of Christ. We meet at 401 S. 11th St. with classes at 9:30 AM and Worship at 10:30 AM.

The Better Sacrifice

The Hebrew writer in chapter ten admonishes the futility of the sacrifices of bulls and goats. In fact: "But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year. For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins ... since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a living way whiich He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is His flesh"(10:3,4,19,20). Jesus, "For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified" (14).

There is no longer any need for any more sacrifices for our sins. Jesus paid the price by going to the cross for our sins -- How Wonderful! This is made possible, because Jesus Is the Better Sacrifice.

The Independence Church of Christ meets at 401 S. 11th St. Bible classes begin at 9:30AM with Worship at 10:30 AM.

The Better Way, Faith

Finally, the writer of Hebrews closes out with a Better Way, that is of Faith. God has saved mankind in the same way, that is by Grace through Faith. This is how a man is justified by God (Eph.2:9-10). The writer of Hebrews exhorts us to the need of faith (11:1,6), and then lists the example of the faithful men and women in times past. The point of our writer is to Illustrate the Importance of having the Faith that saves us! Do You?

The Better Way is that of Grace through Faith In Jesus Christ!

The Independence Church of Christ meets at 401 S. 11th St. Bible classes begin at 9:30 AM with Worship at 10:30 AM. See you Sunday'

The Invasion Of Planet Earth

Our planet was invaded by the Almighty One, in the person of Jesus of Nazareth when He was born at Bethlehem almost 2,000 years ago. The babe was God the Son, the person called, The Word. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God..And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us ... " (John 1:1-14).

He came because the whole world was in a perishing condition caused by sin, and God cared. "For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).

The Saviour stands at your heart's door and knocks. Learn about Jesus and His plan for you. Be with us this Sunday at the Independence Church of Christ, 401 S. 11th. Come study God's Word with us in one of our classes at 9:30 AM and Worship at 10:30 AM.

Jesus is called God

There is one God (Deuteronomy 6:4). He is expressed in three personalities: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each is called God in the Bible; but neither is God without consideration of the other two. There are not three Gods. It is not 1+1+1. It is 1x1x1: this equals one.

The Bible calls Jesus God. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God..And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us" (John 1:1-14). Jesus Himself said: "I and the Father are one" (John 10:30).

The subject of the Godhead is being addressed in our present study in The Gospel of John. Come learn more about God: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit at the Independence Church of Christ, 401 S. 11th. Our classes begin at 9:30 AM and our Worship begins at 10:30 AM. Come Worship with us.

One Mediator

The Bible says, "There is one God, and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5). The mediator between two parties must be equally related to both, so Jesus is both the Son of God and the Son of man.

Jesus says, "I am the way, and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me" (John 14:6).

It is our purpose at the Independence Church of Christ to approach God directly. Those who approach the Father through Him are approaching God directly. Because Jesus is the "0ne Mediator" to the Father.

Come join us at the Independence Church of Christ, 401 S. 11th St. Our classes begin at 9:30 AM and Worship is at 10:30. Come Worship with us.

The Changeless Christ

In Hebrews 13:3, the writer says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, yesforevermore." The writer in Hebrews speaks of the changeless Christ in a changing world. This is The Hope for every generation, past, present, or future.

We live in a world of change and confusion. In most occupations people are being sent back to school for further training that in order that they may keep up with the changing time and technology. However, it is refreshing to know that Jesus Christ and His Word will never change. As a Christian we can go to our grave knowing that our children, grandchildren, and even our great-grandchildren can obey The Gospel of Jesus Christ without any change to The Word of God. In addition. Jesus Himself said: "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass away" (Matthew 24:35).

Come learn more about Jesus Christ at the Independence Church of Christ, 401 S. 11th St. Our Bible Classes begin at 9:30 AM and Worship is at 10:30 AM. Come Worship with us.

The Peacemaker: Jesus

The world around us seems more confused than ever before. Today, all we read or hear about are the problems that surround us: "balancing the budget; crime in America; the racial tension in our schools, jobs, cities; who will lead us into the 21st century." These are all problems that our country must come to terms with. But consider for a moment what The Good News of Jesus Christ can bring to any person.

"For He Himself is our peace, who made both one, and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall making the two into one new man, thus establishing peace" (Eph.2:14,16).

In Christ, we can read of Jesus, The Peacemaker, who brings all men together through His blood, which He shed at the Cross! In Christ, we can read of Jesus, The Peacemaker, who appoints men to be leaders of nations (Ps. 2). In Christ, we can read of Jesus, The Peacemaker, who brings men to a better understanding of ourselves through His Word.

We at the Independence Church of Christ are seeking the answers to man's problems in the Bible. Will you join us? Our Bible Classes begin at 9:30 AM and Worship is at 10:30 AM. Come Worship with Us.

The Final Word

The author to the book of Hebrews states: "God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worId" (Heb.1:1,2)

The Son, Jesus Christ is the heir of ail things, through which God has spoken to us. The author of Hebrews is telling the world then, and now is that Jesus Christ is The Final Word! Jesus says: "Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts upon them, may be compared to a wise man, who built his house upon the rock" (Matt.7:24). Again, He says, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass away" (Matt. 24:35).

The message is clear. Our eternal home is through Christ. Jesus is truth, therefore we must trust and obey the words of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

We at the Independence Church of Christ are seeking the Final Word, that is the New Testament- Come join us for Bible Study and Worship. Classes begin at 9:30 AM. followed by Worship at 10:30. Come Worship with us.
